The BVOA Canine Hip Registry is hosted at University of Liverpool Veterinary School. The Registry exists to collate data on dogs that undergo total hip replacement and follow their progress post-operatively. This is important because joint replacements are intended to last for the rest of a dog's life and it is imperative that vets know which are the best systems to use. Only be collecting data on our canine patients will we learn about problems that occur and ways in which to fix them.

If your dog is going to have a hip replacement, please ask your vet about the BVOA Canine Hip Registry. Any vet performing hip replacement can join the Registry and submit data. For a list of currently registered veterinary surgeons or clinics, please visit our registered practices page. Owners must give fully informed consent to allow their contact information and medical information about their dog to be submitted to the Registry. Such data are not made available to third parties and is treated as confidential.

Once a year, the Registry send out a questionnaire to each registered owner. If an e.mail address is supplied, this questionnaire can be completed online and is very easy. In this way, we collect data on the progress of dogs with hip replacements. Over time, we hope to collect data on thousands of dogs so that we have a very powerful database to provide robust information.
